Participants from all over North Vancouver (and beyond!) will be reaching out to friends, co-workers and family through social media to raise money in support of The Lookout Society's programs for the homeless on the North Shore.  The fundraising campaign will culminate on February 25th 2017 with participants sleeping in their cars in the parking lot or on pews at St. John's Anglican Church in North Vancouver, getting a small taste of what our homeless brothers and sisters face every night.

Why are we doing this? Check this out:

  • Over 3000 people in the Lower Mainland have nowhere to call home
  • It is estimated one-third of homeless people live in their cars, many of them considered the working-poor
  • It costs the shelter approximately $6.25 per day to feed one person 3 meals and a snack
  • Due to facility-limitations, women and families cannot stay at the North Vancouver Shelter - they must travel over to Vancouver or temporarily be put-up in a local motel (if sponsorship can be found)
  • North Vancouver officials and shelter managers are looking at options to help women and families on the North Shore, but no plans are set yet

We can be part of something wonderful. We can make a difference. We can help make sure everyone has access to shelter, food, clothing, counselling, skills training and more.

Participate in the sleepover at St John's Church. Create a team and fund-raise together. Sponsor a participant. Have a bake-sale or bottle-drive to help a participant reach their goal. We are here to help each other, and this is your opportunity to help!

  • All fundraising will be done online
  • A registration fee of $30 is charged to offset administration costs involved in using the online fundraising site
  • To register, participants should purchase a registration ticket ($30), which gives them an access code needed to create their own page on this site
  • Participants can customize their pages with pictures, stories, etc -they will then share that page via social media, encouraging friends and family to support them in reaching their fundraising goal
  • We are recommending a minimum personal fundraising goal of $500.00 each

The Event:

  • Registered participants will gather at St. John's Anglican Church on the evening of Saturday, February 25th, 2017
  • Bringing their own blankets, sleeping bags, toques, mitts, and other means of warmth and comfort, the participants will sleep in their cars overnight
  • Those who do not have access to a car, or who simply prefer, will be allowed to sleep on a pew in the church sanctuary overnight
  • Participants will be encouraged to share their experience on social media, from check-in and gathering before bed to trying to get comfortable in the car or on a pew, to waking up in the middle of the long, long night with every noise... giving just a small hint as to what it is like to be without a home
  • The long, long night will end with a simple breakfast followed by a special service of thanksgiving and a blessing over everyone involved
