About the WeeFestival of Theatre and Culture for Early Years The festival aims to promote and celebrate the importance of arts and culture in early childhood through a program of performances and activities researched and created by leading international companies especially dedicated to very young audiences. The first festival in 2014 welcomed productions from Europe, Quebec, and Ontario in 4 different venues. In addition to the featured performances, the festival hosted an academic symposium, a professional conference, workshops for artists, teachers, and parents, and an exhibition of artwork celebrating the Charter of Children’s Rights to Arts and Culture.
WeeFestival 2016 featured productions by acclaimed companies specializing in theatre for the very young from Belgium, Scotland, Italy, Germany, Québec, Manitoba and Ontario. Whether for babies and toddlers, preschoolers, or kindergarteners, each show was created with the emotional and social developmental needs and interests of young children and were presented in intimate venues to ensure every child was close to the action and fully immersed in the experience.
