Every two years 8 to 10 teams from Canada and the United States compete in the North American "POWER HOCKEY CUP” Tournament. This coming July the Toronto Lake Raiders, representing the Toronto Power Wheelchair Hockey League (TPWHL) will take an elite team of 10 athletes to compete in Philadelphia for the “Power Hockey Cup”. The team will consist of veteran and rookie players (male/female) from the ages of 16 to 45. The TPWHL will bring 3 coaches, 7 attendants/volunteers who will assist players with their personal care. Players will be housed in local hotels in the Philadelphia area. The tournament takes place at Pennsylvania Convention Centre in Philadelphia, from July 8 - July 11, and all players will participate in opening and closing ceremonies, followed by a banquet. The expected attendance of this event including players and spectators is approximately 2000. The event is open to anyone wishing to watch and to experience something truly unique. The event will be covered by local media, newspaper, video streaming, and advertising on team websites as well various social media. There are no fees for the players, as many of them are on a fixed incomes (Ontario Disability Support Program or ODSP), making it impossible for them to afford such a trip, or the additional cost of hiring attendant staff for personal care. All expenses including, transportation, transfers to/from events, accommodations, food, uniforms, and tournament fees will be paid for by the Toronto Power Wheelchair Hockey League (TPWHL). The leagues main objective is to win the Gold Medal, and bring the “Power Hockey Cup” home to Toronto, and our hope is businesses such as you can make this dream possible.
