Hunger on campus is a prominent issue that affects over 2,500 students, staff, and alumni alike at the University of Alberta. Based on statistics gathered by the Campus Food Bank (C.F.B.), this issue is one that continues to grow as client usage has continued to steadily increase over the past few years.
The Fast and The Studious is an annual event held by the Campus Food Bank to help spread awareness of the growing problem of hunger in the campus community and raise funds for the C.F.B. to combat the issue. The event itself takes the form of a pledge drive in which participants fast for 24 hours to bring awareness about food insecurity on campus. Participants will be expected to raise money through donations collected through our "CanadaHelps" web page. An email with information on how to sign up with us on the "CanadaHelps" page will be sent to you within a few days after completing your registration on this form. Pre-fast and post-fast meals will be provided for all participants.
The Campus Food Bank truly appreciates any and all participation in the event. Your participation will go directly towards helping fund the daily operations of the C.F.B. allowing us to provide our clients with nutritious food.
The event begins on Wednesday November 29 in Alumni Room at Students Union Building. You may arrive there anytime once the event starts and begin your individual fast after a light snack during that time frame. The event includes a free event t-shirt, a pre-fast meal, post-fasting meal and door prizes. A presentation on hunger, fasting and what your contribution would mean to the Campus Food Bank will be part of this event. Fasting occurs from Nov. 29th until Nov. 30th. We ask that you wear your T-shirt while fasting to raise support and awareness for the cause. On Thursday November 30, dinner will be provided for participants to conclude the fasting. Prizes will be awarded for highest fundraising target amounts.
