WISH is a non-profit based in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side that works tirelessly to improve the health and safety of self-identified women (including cis and trans women) involved in Vancouver’s street-based sex trade. WISH provides a drop-in centre and emergency shelter, an outreach van, a supportive employment program and an Indigenous Health and Safety program. They also offer a Learning Centre, music therapy and a health clinic.
WISH has launched a winter fundraising campaign with the goal of $130,000. It's an ambitious and an extremely important goal. Why?
Sex workers are slipping through the cracks. Because of COVID, street-based sex workers have been made even more vulnerable than before.
Unfortunately, it took a global pandemic to put much-needed programs and services in place. But WISH, and the women who rely on our services, cannot afford to go “back to normal.” We need your help to hold on to the additional programming that’s only been possible due to one-time emergency funds.
We at BCCDC can really help move WISH towards their fundraising goal. And every dollar that we donate will be matched by an anonymous, long-time donor. Donations of $20 or over will receive a tax receipt.
So please join us in giving generously to a very worthy local cause!
