Hey! My name is Levi: On August 1st I'm teaming up with 35+ other friends and members of Baylea Wilkins Fitness to Raise BIG Money for KidSport BC. I have agreed to put myself through the torture of 1000 burpees (and the training to get there) in an effort to help the team reach its goal of $100,000.00
Believe it or not, COST keeps 1 of 3 kids out of organized sports in Canada! Especially those from marginalized and remote communities. This fundraiser is near and dear to my heart for a few reasons.
1) Working in Mental Health in the Downtown Eastside in Vancouver, I come across a fair amount of families/children that have not had the privilege to be enrolled in group sports activities. Through KidSport, these kids could gain access to a window of opportunity :)
2) Because of the profound impact that taking part in physical activity has had on my mental wellbeing and quality of life. Being active improves mood, decreases the chance of anxiety/depression, and leads to a more balanced lifestyle. (plus it keeps you out of trouble :)
KidSport, if your unfamiliar, is a national nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance for organized sports registration fees and equipment to kids aged 18 and under. Through a confidential application process, they provide grants so that kids can play a season of their sport. Nationally, KidSport is comprised of a network of 11 provincial/territorial KidSport Chapters and 166 Community KidSport Chapters. Since its creation in 1993, over 825,000 kids across the country have been given the chance to play their sport through these grants that YOU will help contribute to!
Help ALL Kids Play :)
A shoutout to Baylea Wilkins for organizing this!\
