As you may know, I sit proudly on the Board of Directors for Gilda’s Club Greater Toronto – a charity that offers supportive programs to adults, children and teens who are impacted by cancer. As a result of the pandemic, stress, anxiety and isolation are at an all-time high while dwindling resources have created an even greater need for emotional, social and practical cancer support services.
To support the mental health of those experiencing cancer related stress during COVID-19, Gilda's Club has moved to an online, virtual program format. This format has been tremendously supportive as described by program participant, Ute D., “I joined Gilda’s Club during the pandemic while going through cancer treatment. I live alone and Gilda’s Club has given me hope and strength to hang in there, even on days I’ve found difficult. Their virtual programs have gotten me through some really tough times so I look forward to connecting with my Gilda’s community each week.”
Ute is not alone in her need for support as Gilda’s Club has seen a 59% increase in program attendance since the onset of the pandemic. The teen support group has come close to doubling while the children’s groups, Kids Talk Out and Kids Grieve Too have grown from two to four groups this year. With an estimated 225,800 Canadians diagnosed in 2020, additional programs are needed to support individuals with cancer, their families and caregivers. Your donation today will reduce waitlists and add programs that relieve stress, reduce isolation and provide support in navigating today’s complex healthcare landscape.
Today, you can double your impact. Your donation in the month of May will be matched up to $20,000 by DivorceMate Software.
With sincere gratitude,
