* There seems to be an issue with the site accepting donations at this time. Working on getting this resolved ASAP so everyone can donate. I will provide updates
As a long time Kitchener resident, it was troubling waking up to the news of the unfortunate and devastating vandalism done to Rockway Gardens.
Many of us in the community here in Waterloo Region have visited these gardens to take pictures of some of our most memorable celebrations such as engagements, weddings and graduations, or just visited the green space close to the heart of Kitchener for a walk past the memorials and fountains.
This garden has been a part of Kitchener City for almost 150 years, holding tours for generations of Kitchener locals to appreciate the greenspace there via workshops, community youth events, exchanges and more.
The vandalism caused substantial damage to memorial tables, benches, flower beds, fountains, and memorial trees with estimated costs to repair the destruction to be somewhere between $30,000-$45,000.
Rockway Gardens is fully funded and operated for the City of Kitchener by the Kitchener Horticultural Society, funding its operations solely from proceeds of membership sales and donations.
With the community sacrificing so much during this pandemic, this needless destruction is a low blow to our city at a horrible time and hope we can use this opportunity to come together to support Rockway Gardens. Any membership purchase or donation amount possible would be greatly appreciated.
Donations will go directly to the Kitchener Horticultural Society and tax receipts are also available to donors.
