June is Myasthenia Gravis Awareness month. We are a small group in the Comox Valley that raises money for Myasthenia Gravis Research and Education. We are the Comox Valley Myasthenia Support Services. We raise money for the BC Myasthenia Gravis Association of BC. In 2018 and 2019 we held fundraising walks in the Courtenay Airpark. Due to Covid-19 we have temporarily suspended our walks and are doing fundraising online and through sales of masks.
Myasthenia Gravis is a progressive, chronic, autoimmune disorder in which antibodies destroy the communication between nerves and muscle, resulting in weakness of the skeletal muscles. Myasthenia gravis affects the voluntary muscles of the body, especially those that control the eyes, mouth, throat and limbs.
Myasthenia is rare and hard to diagnose. Many people spend years suffering before they receive a diagnosis. Even then, the course of disease varies so greatly that each person with MG has a long and complicated journey. Do to Covid-19 we cancelled our 2020 Walk for Myasthenia in the Comox Valley, but we still are dedicated to raising money for research and public Education.
Thank you for your support.
