Never Forget Nannies Banana Bread

My Nanny was like no other - an independent, strong willed, opinionated, loving, and caring woman. She was someone I looked up to and aspired to be like with her perfect balance of hard work and enjoyment of life. Her passion for baking was unprecedented and she taught me everything I know about baking. When she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 2010 I was 13 years of age. I was still young and couldn't quite comprehend what it meant to live with dementia. What I did notice however, were the changes in my Nanny and the impact on my parents as caregivers. After some time, we were fortunate enough to find some care for her in a specialized long term care home. Then it was after my Nanny passed in 2011 that I knew that baking was my inherited passion and pursuing a career in the healthcare field was my calling. Not a day goes by that I don't think of my Nanny and in honour of her 10th year of passing, I decided to create this fundraiser, "Never Forget Nannies Banana Bread."

For the month of January, my hope is to raise awareness about dementia and its everlasting impact on Canadians. Although this fundraiser will only be for the month of January (Alzheimer's Awareness Month), I hope that my friends and family are able to take this knowledge and continue to share it throughout the year.

Furthermore, in honour of my grandmother (Nanny), this fundraiser will also be raising money for the Alzheimer's Society of Ontario. Nanny taught me everything I know about baking so it only seemed natural to bake in her honour. "Never Forget Nannies Banana Bread" is special because all proceeds go to the Alzheimer's Society of Ontario. Each banana bread loaf will be sold for $10 (more than 50% of the cost are proceeds) and available for contactless delivery in Toronto, Etobicoke, North York, and the Niagara Region. If you prefer to simply make a donation directly to the Alzheimer's Society of Ontario you may do so here.

Please go to the following link for more information on the fundraiser and to place an order for banana bread: https://forms.gle/gY7orT8GXpywffFq6

Thank you so much for supporting my efforts to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society of Ontario so that Nannies living with dementia are never forgotten!
