In August 2019, our friend, roommate, and teammate, Mathew Szymanowski (a.k.a. Shim), was struck by a motor vehicle while out on his bike and suffered a spinal cord injury, resulting in paralysis from the neck down.
On July 25th, 2020, we (Cole, Nick, and Sam) rode from Port Hardy to Victoria (520 km) in a fundraising effort to support Shim's recovery costs and also raise awareness for Spinal Cord Injury B.C. We had incredible support along the way and the community came together to raise $85,000 for his treatment. Moving forward, we plan to raise money for spinal cord research and treatment. For a comprehensive summary of Shim’s Ride 2020, including a breakdown of Shim’s treatment and recovery outlook, visit our website www.shimsride.ca.
On July 23/24th 2021, we will be riding from Kelowna to Victoria (547 km) in an effort to fundraise through direct donation and by donating 100% of proceeds from the sale of Shim's Ride cycling apparel. Please visit our website www.shimsride.ca to make your purchase and for more information on the ride itself.
