Covid 19 Charity Challenge! Thank you SAQ! :o)

IF I saved you "$150", would you show your appreciation by making a donation equal to what you saved, to your favourite Covid 19 Fund?

Four years ago, I began an effort, as an activist, to have the SAQ post bilingual signs, at their outlets where English speakers consisted of 25% or more of the population.

As a result of the activism, the SAQ lowered their prices to the level of Ontario's LCBO. They would not post bilingual signs as requested. No problem, as my second goal was to cost the SAQ many millions of $$.

I now request that everyone reading this, donate $1.25 for each 750 ml bottle that they purchased in Quebec, in the past 2.5 years, to the Covid 19 fund of their choice

PLEASE SPECIFY THAT YOUR DONATION IS FOR THE COVID 19 FUND WHEN YOU MAKE IT TO THE COVID FUND OF YOUR CHOICE!

DETAILS

MANY people did contact the SAQ, and that did bring a positive result. We made the CTV news, The Suburban, and upset the PQ and many other xenophobes! The SAQ announced that they would put up 1-2 bilingual signs at 65 or so outlets.

I solicited donations through a Go Fund Me page, and as you can see, the page mentions over $123,000 was collected. At first, people donated cash. Then I had the idea of using the Tangerine $50/$50 offer to raise funds! https://ca.gofundme.com/f/BoycottTheSAQ

As $$ was accumulating, I was busy telling the Minister of Finance that if bilingual signs were not posted, I would spend the $$ on Facebook ads targeting Greater Montreal. The ads commenced and advised Montrealers that they should buy their wine in Ontario in bulk and save $$$!

Not too long afterwards, the SAQ announced that they would be lowering their prices to the same level as the LCBO.

In Feb/20, I contacted MNA, Carlos Leitão’s office, and asked what led to the SAQ lowering their prices, to the same level as the LCBO.

I was eventually told that the Government of Quebec had requested that a study be performed by a private accounting firm, of pricing policy at the SAQ. I was advised that the prices were lowered as a result of the recommendations of the study. 😂

Why would a monopoly, such as the SAQ lower their prices throughout Quebec? There’s no logical reason.🤔

I can appreciate the SAQ lowering their prices close to the Ontario border (Gatineau, Grenville, Rivière Beaudet) in order not to lose local Quebec customers to Ontario, but all across Quebec?

SO, as I found the timing of the lowering of prices at the SAQ highly coincidental, I submitted an access to Information request of the SAQ.

THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD NO RECORD OF SUCH A STUDY AND SUGGESTED THAT I ASK THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE, THE SAME QUESTION, BUT MENTIONED THAT IF SUCH A STUDY HAD BEEN PERFORMED, THE SAQ WOULD OBVIOUSLY HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE!

THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE ALSO ADVISED ME THAT THERE WAS NO SUCH STUDY!

I HAVE SINCE ASKED CARLOS LEITÃO’S POLITICAL ATTACHÉ TO INFORM ME WHO ACTUALLY DID THE STUDY.

THERE HAS BEEN NO RESPONSE!

I DO NOT EXPECT A RESPONSE, BUT IF ONE DOES ARRIVE IT WILL MENTION THAT A MISCOMMUNICATION HAPPENED! 😂😂😂🤪🤪🤪

IF YOU BUY WINE IN QUEBEC I LIKELY SAVED YOU a MINIMUM OF  “$1.25” PER 750 ML IN THE PAST 2.5 YEARS. (The SAQ refuses to provide an actual amount per bottle.) HOW MUCH DID I SAVE YOU, IF MY ACTIVISM LED TO THE LOWERING OF WINE PRICES IN QUEBEC?

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DONATE $1.25 per BOTTLE OF WINE THAT YOUR HOUSEHOLD HAS CONSUMED TO SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION FOR THE HEALTHCARE WORKERS WHO ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

You will receive a tax receipt for your donation.

DONATE TO THE COVID 19 FUND OF YOUR CHOICE, IN HONOUR OF THE HEALTHCARE WORKERS WHO ARE WORKING TO SAVE LIVES!!!

Stay safe!
