To support women, children, youth and transgender persons in a client-centered, non-judgmental way; to provide services and housing - from crisis to stability - through emergency shelter, short and longer term housing, programs and resources that offer safety and an opportunity for growth. To advocate for women and children and to work to eliminate poverty and the societal conditions that create homelessness.
About Adsum for Women & Children
Adsum for Women & Children has been a non-profit, community-based organization in Halifax, Nova Scotia since 1983. We started with an emergency shelter for women, youth, children and transgender individuals, who are experiencing homelessness. We now work out of four locations: an emergency shelter, second-stage housing and two locations offering affordable supportive housing for women. We have added condominiums that provide long term quality homes that are safe and affordable, for low-income single mothers. Each day we house 80 women and children and provide support services based on their individual needs. Every year we provide shelter or housing to more than 400 different people and assist over 1,000 with drop-in services, housing searches, clothing and household items. We advocate to improve the quality of life for individuals and families who are marginalized in our community and to eliminate poverty and societal conditions that create homelessness. Our vision is “Everyone has a Safe and Secure Home”.
