To operate and enhance our barrier free wilderness camp for children and adults with special needs, along with their families and caregivers.
About AGUR LAKE CAMP SOCIETY
The story of Agur Lake Camp started over 30 years ago when Bonnar Dowler vowed to establish a camp for children with special needs and their families. At the time Bonnar was visiting his terminally ill infant son at BC Children's Hospital and saw the many children who would never know the joy of gliding across a lake in a canoe or the wonder of a starry night in the forest.
The camp is located 20km west of Summerland British Columbia and is available to children and adults with special needs along with their families and caregivers throughout BC. The camp offers fully furnished cabins, dry RV sites, 2 fishing docks, paved trails, communal fire-pit, picnic pavilion and outdoor accessible washroom. The entire facility is mostly barrier free so that every camper, regardless of their special need, can enjoy nature and the outdoors.
We will offer a safe environment to those who would not normally be able to attend a camp due to physical, sensory and/or mental challenges. Agur Lake Camp will accept the affected individual regardless of age as well as their family or caregiver to support them. The lodge and cabins will be of the users.
"Agur Lake Camp is a place that will cater to the whole family as opposed to just the individual. That makes us unique. I think that is valuable because families are much stronger and happier when they are kept together." -Amanda Lewis, guest and previous Board of Directors member
