Collaborative Care For Cognitive Change: Spotting The Signs

Morning: Delirium Prevention, Recognition and Management: What Can You Do?

  • Understand the meaning of delirium and highlight why it is so important, particularly in dementia patients.
  • Discuss how to recognize delirium and manage it appropriately.
  • Discuss ways to help prevent delirium.

Morning: Pain & Dementia

Brynn’s examination of pain will include a close look at its neurobiology and pathways. He will  speak to age-related changes in pain processing and explore how this is altered with dementia. Brynn will review how to assess for pain in someone living with dementia and explore a few interventions for pain control.

Afternoon:  Compassion Fatigue

The expectation that we can be immersed in suffering and loss daily and not be touched by it is as unrealistic as expecting to be able to walk through water without getting wet. (Remen, 1996)

Having worked in the field of child welfare, domestic violence, palliative care and now private practice, Valerie knows first hand the 'Cost of Caring’.

Using her ‘re-discovered’ sense of humour, Valerie will share how Compassion Fatigue snuck up on her, changed her and how she survived to tell her story.

In this interactive workshop participants will begin to have an understanding of how they are impacted by the work that they do, and through experiential exercises will be given an opportunity to reflect on how they are doing and explore strategies needed to continue to be healthy while working in the field.
