Our 2016 Benefit Cocktail Party takes place on Wednesday, November 2 in our beautiful heritage building that’s a National Historic Site. As in previous years, the event will include a fabulous silent auction and tasty smoked meat. Mutsumi Takahashi, the popular CTV Montreal Anchor, is emceeing and, as in previous years, the fabulous  Dave Turner Jazz Trio are playing.

This year’s Guest of Honour is Hon. W. David Angus, Co-Chair of the Atwater Library Capital Campaign and generous contributor to our organization. He had a distinguished career for some 50 years as a lawyer and corporate director and served in the Senate of Canada from 1993 to 2012. He has also made major volunteer contributions to the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Homes, Brain Canada and McGill University’s Chair in Canadian-Scottish Studies.

Our annual fundraiser generates awareness of our organization and regularly contributes significant funds for community educational and cultural programs and services – a vital part of our modest annual budget of about $550,000. This year our need for support is more compelling than ever. There are growing community demands for our services plus pressure to spend to conserve our 98-year-old heritage building.

À propos de cet organisme

We serve everyone and attract over 95,000 user visits a year. In addition, we do extensive community outreach and partner with a host of groups and schools. We are a registered charity with a mission to foster learning and contribute to the development of the Montreal community. In this respect, we are like the YMCA, Y des Femmes and Tyndale St-Georges Community Centre. We have deep roots in Montreal, yet are a modern, innovative community resource centre. More than just books, we offer courses and workshops to help young and old master technology in the digital age, a state-of-the art computer centre, literary and educational events, financial literacy sessions, exhibitions on literature and history, meeting space for community groups, and much more. We depend primarily on private donations and volunteer service for our vitality, and invite your support as a member, a donor and/or a volunteer.
