BIAWE is a registered charity, which exists for the needs of families and individuals with acquired brain injury in Windsor & Essex county.
Our Mission: To enhance the lives of residents of Windsor and Essex County affected by acquired brain injury (ABI) through education, advocacy and support.
Our support groups provide an opportunity for people to share their experiences and feelings, coping strategies, and firsthand information about an acquired brain injury. They provide a safe place to become comfortable around others and strengthen and empower themselves, thus reducing stress and anxiety and having a positive impact on health. We have support groups for survivors, young adults, pediatric caregivers, caregivers and children.
We instruct children about the proper use and wearing of helmets in sports. We educate students from grades 7 to 12 about the need to tell a responsible adult when they've hit their head. We organize annual ABI conferences for health care and legal professionals.
