Improving the status of women through education

Education is globally acknowledged as the most powerful means of empowering women and girls and protecting them from the violation of their human rights.

For more than 30 years, CFUW* Mississauga has supported this effort by awarding scholarships to young women graduating from Mississauga high schools pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited Canadian college or university. In 2024, with the financial support of a former member, we added a new Achievement Award specifically designed to support a female student with mobility challenges to pursue her post-secondary education.

Each year we plan to support five young women graduating from a Mississauga high school as they pursue their educational dreams. Four scholarships and one Achievement Award are available to young women pursuing post-secondary education.

Additionally, CFUW Mississauga funds a scholarship through Sheridan College, to support a female student enrolled full time in the second year of any undergraduate program.

Efforts are underway to increase the number and type of scholarships that are available.
