Who are We: We are the Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind. We enable blind and visually-impaired Israelis, regardless of race or religion, to achieve independence, mobility, and self-esteem through working partnerships with guide dogs.
Since our founding in 1991, we have facilitated hundreds of Partnerships of blind Israelis with our guide dogs throughout Israel. The dogs we use for breeding provide most of our puppies, though some are donated by generous colleagues in the International Guide Dog Federation.
Who is suitable? Any blind Israeli adult who is physically and emotionally capable of caring for a guide dog and desires a more independent life is a candidate for a guide dog. We are expanding our facilities to meet the increasing demand for guide dogs.
All of the dogs we breed and raise assist someone in need. Over half become guide dogs, and the rest that doesn’t meet our high standards are offered to people with Special Needs—such as blind or autistic children, people suffering from PTSD, or those with other physical, emotional, or psychological needs.
What does a guide dog mean to a blind person? One of our graduates, said, "Now that we have our flight wings and we are ready to fly free, -- without depending on other people, we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the new life that you gave us to fulfill our dreams.” Another said: “I want to work, I want to walk, I want to BE! And can only do this with the help of my guide dog".
Help us continue with our mission. we are almost entirely supported by donations and bequests from individuals, foundations, companies, and organizations that believe in our humanitarian work.
