Our Story
Founded in 2012 by Dr. Kofi Hope, the CEE Centre for Young Black Professionals (CEE) is a Black-led, Black-focused, and Black-serving (B3) organization dedicated to supporting the economic and social advancement of Black youth in Toronto. Launched as part of the 2006 Youth Challenge Fund, CEE emerged as a legacy initiative responding to the rise in youth violence during Toronto’s “summer of the gun,” and continues to address the systemic barriers Black youth face in accessing meaningful employment and career growth.
CEE’s commitment is to build a society and economy where Black youth can achieve financial prosperity and a high quality of life for themselves and their families. To realize this vision, CEE has developed a robust workforce development ecosystem tailored for Black youth aged 18 to 29. This ecosystem integrates practical skills training, holistic social support including psychotherapy, business development, and partnerships with community and industry leaders. The result is a comprehensive model that prepares youth to succeed as professionals and contribute meaningfully to Canada’s economic growth.
CEE’s programs are culturally relevant and trauma-informed, designed specifically to meet the unique needs of Black youth while fostering leadership, creativity, and inclusive economic development. The organization focuses on five key industries with significant labour market gaps: finance, technology, entertainment, social services, and trades. To date, CEE has designed, piloted, and implemented more than 20 specialized programs aligned with these sectors.
