The Church of the Epiphany and St. Mark
We are an inclusive and vibrant community of God's people in Parkdale.
All are welcome at The Church of the Epiphany and St. Mark, a vibrant, caring, intimate, justice-seeking Anglican community of faith. We are located at 201 Cowan Avenue in the Parkdale neighbourhood of Toronto, just south of Queen Street and a few blocks west of Dufferin Avenue.
Our weekly worship service is both in-person and online at 10:30 on Sunday mornings, and we observe traditional Anglican liturgy with uplifting music from a variety of styles (jazz, folk, hymns, classic, meditative and many others). Our music director oversees the weekly service song selection and we enjoy hosting musical guests from time to time.
As an ethnically diverse congregation, special themed services and events are held throughout the year, including Black History Month, First Nations celebrations, Earth Day, All Souls Day, and more. The church serves not only as an Anglican congregation, which includes a large number of African-Canadian parishioners from across Toronto, but also as a cultural/social/spiritual hub for multiple groups that serve the Parkdale community, especially the most vulnerable. We feel blessed in the groups who make use of our building, with their diverse forms of outreach, support, and advocacy.

Our Steeple
The building in which these diverse activities take place is essential: it was built in 1880 as the Church of St. Mark, and amalgamated with the Church of the Epiphany in 1984. The church received heritage status from the City of Toronto in 1976 and the Ontario Heritage Trust in 1984. One element that makes it beautiful and historic is its Gothic Revival style that includes an octagonal spire topped with a belfry and Maltese cross. The bell has been faithfully rung to welcome and celebrate church events. In 2023 it began to lean eastwards, and a heritage architect and a structural engineer determined that it should be removed as soon as possible, as it represented an imminent public safety risk.
The spire was restored and replaced in June 2025, with generous donations from the Toronto Heritage Fund and the Anglican Diocese of Toronto. However, we still owe $30,000 to the Diocese to cover the remainder of the repairs in regular loan repayments. This is a challenge for our small congregation.
Please consider sustaining this beautiful part of our community’s history and work of welcoming and supporting all for years to come.
Our goal is $4,000, twenty percent of the total that will be needed. Any contributions will be gratefully received.
