To enrich the lives of individuals with special needs in the Blue Mountains area. EFL has transitioned to an online day program.
Events for Life Centre Inc: To enrich the lives of individuals with special needs by providing educational, social, and recreational day programs geared towards lifelong learning, in the Town of the Blue Mountains and surrounding areas.
Once a student who has a special need reaches the age of 21, their formalized high school experience ends. Many do not continue to post secondary or even find meaningful employment. Opportunities to build life skills, live independently and to be engaged in leisure and social activities are limited - especially in rural communities. EFL fills this gap. Since inception in 2013, enrollment has seen a steady increase each year. We currently have over 30 participants enrolled in the program.
Located on Beaver Creek Farms, Thornbury, Events for Life Centre Inc. (EFL) is a non-profit registered charity that offers a wide variety of educational, recreational and social day programs. EFL is geared toward lifelong learning for special needs youth and adults servicing Thornbury, Meaford, Collingwood, Owen Sound and surrounding areas.
Social Skills: Our participants make many lifelong friends here at EFL, engaging in our many social outings. Utilizing our SmartBoard technology, participants can engage in social exercises which they can apply to the real world.
Recreation: Participants are very active in our community. Weekly outings may include activities like yoga, dance, swimming, bowling and pickle-ball - to name a few. Since EFL is located on a farm, participants get to spend time visiting and caring for animals, bird-watching, hiking on the beautiful trails, kayaking or paddle boating on the pond.
Lifelong Learning: Our participants learn and practice many lifelong skills which they can apply to the workplace. Every other Wednesday, our participants head over to the Marsh Street Centre where they practice their vocational skills by serving coffee and their freshly baked goods to our local community members. This occurs the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month. The participants would love for you to join us and will greet you with a friendly smile!
