About Fatal Light Awareness Program (FLAP) Canada

FLAP Canada is a registered charity working to promote, educate and address the issue of bird collisions with human-built structures. Since its inception in 1993, FLAP Canada volunteers have recovered over 85,000 birds from 173 species--including species at risk such as the Canada Warbler and Eastern Meadowlark--in the Greater Toronto Area. In addition,  FLAP Canada has helped cities develop 'Lights Out!' initiatives, bird-friendly guidelines and organize volunteer patrols in cities throughout Canada and the U.S.; from Ottawa to San Francisco. Citizen scientists may volunteer in our patrols or engage in tracking live migration or report bird-building collisions through interactive web-based resources.

Through its BirdSafe building standards, developed in collaboration with subject expertise, FLAP Canada has assisted government, residential, industrial, institutional and commercial (IC&I) sectors and NGOs to assess and remediate bird-building collision threats.
