Our Mission

Our primary goal is to provide educational and technical support to farmers and independent growers.  We do this by creating opportunities for people from northeast India and the west coast of Canada to work and learn together - to grow healthy food, care for the soil and celebrate our cultural diversity.

About FERTILE GROUND: EAST/WEST SUSTAINABILITY NETWORK

Since 2003, Fertile Ground has offered encouragement to small tea growers, farming families, NGO's, agricultural extension staff, teachers and students.  While our focus has been primarily in rural Assam, we also offer workshops and training opportunities here on Vancouver Island and nearby coastal communities.Through partnerships with like-minded organizations, we've helped to initiate organic demonstration gardens where people learn to produce compost, vermicompost and other natural inputs made from locally-available materials. We respect traditional knowledge and practices, and explore ways to combine that local wisdom with techniques that are sustainable and environmentally-sound.
