First Met will offer a six-week Mindfulness for the New Year course on Tuesday evenings in January and February 2018. The course will be offered by Wally Lazaruk, PhD, an education consultant and Certified Professional Coach.
Specific dates for this event in 2018 are January 23 and 30 and February 6, 13, 20 and 27. Each session runs from 7 pm to 8:30 pm.
In this participatory and practical course, participants will develop increased awareness and concentration, a quieter mind, more effective coping with stressful situations, increased ability to relax, greater energy and enthusiasm for life, improved self-esteem, and self-compassion and compassion for others.
Classes will include:
Guided instruction in selected mindfulness practices such as mindful breathing, body scan, mindful sitting, mindful walking, mindful movements and befriending meditation
Group discussions and home assignments to enhance awareness in everyday life
Wally Lazaruk received professional training in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) developed at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He worked as an intern with the Center for Mindfulness, University of California, San Diego and received training in MindfulnessBased Cognitive Therapy.
Fees for the course are $75 and will be used to fund Spiritual Care and Wellness initiatives at First Met. Should you require financial assistance, please fill out a manual registration form and deposit it in the Finance Office.
