The Forth Junction Heritage Society is working toward creating a multi-use family-oriented community heritage rail park and ultimately a world-class destination to celebrate the evolution of railways, transit and historic trails as catalysts in the development of Red Deer and Central Alberta and sharing that transportation heritage in an educational, interactive and fun way. The Society has acquired a large railway artifact collection, currently in storage, from the now-closed Calgary & Edmonton Railway Station Museum in Edmonton. Our priorities include funding for continued storage fees ($3,000 per year), completing a feasibility study and business plan ($50,000), acquiring a 40-60 acre site along the CPR rail line between Red Deer and Innisfail of which the outer 20-40 acres would be used for the park and the inner 20-25 acres for commercial tourist development, fees and servicing to start construction of the park, and building a replication of the original 1891 C&E Railway Station to exhibit the artifact collection. Phase 1 of the proposed project will include the replication of up to 4 railway stations of the region to house artifact exhibits and interactive representations, historical miniature-world model rail exhibits, train viewing platform, transit garage, ornamental gardens, themed playground, picnic areas, trails and landscaping.
