Our Mission

‘Full Circle’ evokes many images: inclusiveness, wholeness, a full gathering. It is both a traditional symbol of completion and of continuous movement – action with no beginning or end.

Full Circle First Nations Performance supports these principles in our practice. We honour the contributions of all our members within a diverse circle of cultures, communities and perspectives; we initiate projects and bring them to completion; we renew traditional practices to allow for our continuation through time.

We train a wide variety of artists to in all aspects of the performing arts based on and respectful of Aboriginal traditions, culture, and history.

We create a range of performance opportunities for Aboriginal artists to express the reality of their experience. We engage audiences of all ages and backgrounds in performances by Aboriginal artists. We educate the Canadian public on the arts and culture of Aboriginal peoples.

We are extremely well integrated into our local community. As well, through the leadership role we play in the development of contemporary arts practice among Aboriginal artists, and through the dissemination of our work across Canada and beyond, including recent collaborations with Aboriginal artists from Australia, New Zealand the United States, our programming and activities have developed an international significance.

About FULL CIRCLE: FIRST NATIONS PERFORMANCE

Full Circle, established in 1992, is the brainchild of Margo Kane(Cree/Saulteaux), an interdisciplinary artist and leading figure in Aboriginal performing arts. Over the past forty years, she has been recognized as a storyteller, dancer, singer, animator, video and installation artist, director, producer, writer, and teacher. Her desire to create work that has meaning for her people is the catalyst for her extensive travels into both rural and urban Aboriginal communities across Canada, and fuels her commitment to performance that is not only socially relevant but empowering, as well.
