About Gateway Centre for Learning
Gateway Centre for Learning, formerly the Midland Area Reading Council, is a local non-profit and a registered charitable organization of trained volunteers and professional staff. We have been providing services to the North Simcoe community since 1982.
What we are:
- Non-profit, registered charity
- Community-based literacy organization
What we do:
- Provide year round learning programs and services for residents of North Simcoe
- Programs and services are developed and delivered by trained volunteers and professional staff
- One to one tutoring and small group workshops we offer:
- Basic literacy, math, computer, employability, and essential life skills up-grading
How we do it:
- We rely heavily on volunteers
- Fundraising:
- We operate Bookmark Used Books, which sells quality gently used books, with all proceeds supporting Gateway programming
- Computer courses
- Tag Days
- Donations from individuals and organizations
- Awareness events, interviews and presentations
