Keynote Speaker: Karen Haycox is an experienced leader in the affordable housing space, who was the first Executive Director at Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex. Continuing her legacy with Habitat for Humanity International, Karen served in leadership roles on the organization’s annual Carter Work Projects and on international and domestic disaster relief efforts, including the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Hurricanes Katrina & Rita, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Midwestern tornados in Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma as well as, Superstorm Sandy. Karen joined Habitat for Humanity New York City as CEO in August of 2015.

Karen is deeply involved in New York’s LGBTQ and housing communities, including serving on the board of the Stonewall Community Development Coalition, an organization dedicated to providing New York’s LGBTQ seniors with supportive, affordable and safe housing options. She also serves on the board of the Housing Partnership, which assists in the development, promotion, and revitalization of New York City’s affordable homeownership and rental housing through an assortment of specialized programs.

She lives in the New York City area with her dog Ripley and cat Pepper.

Silent Auction: Opening during dinner. A small assortment of specially donated items will be available for bidding. The featured item is a beautiful coffee table handmade by Jim Holmes.

This table was inspired with the Habitat theme of building houses in mind. The tabletop was constructed using variegated poplar (also known as purple poplar) and the cabriole legs were shaped from clear poplar. Inside this table, you with find a collection of tools that a carpenter would have used to build homes prior to the days of power tools. The shadow box has been lined with an actual set of house plans used to construct one of the homes that our affiliate built for a family.

À propos de cet organisme

Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex is a non-profit, faith-based organization working for a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Our mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. Established in 1994, Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex is a non-profit, non-denominational faith-based housing organization. 100% of all administrative and fundraising costs are paid for by the operation of our ReStore. Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada, works with corporate, individual and faith-based donors and volunteers to give families a hand up, not a hand out. Habitat for Humanity is founded on the belief that decent, affordable housing is a basic human right.
