To act as a food bank for the benefit of the population of South East Ottawa,distributing food directly to the needy by arranging for, collecting, processing, storing and distributing food .
About HERON EMERGENCY FOOD CENTRE SOUTH EAST OTTAWA
HEFC receives food in bulk and purchases items that are needed to supplement what has been donated to ensure that the three-day, emergency supply of food that we provide will meet the nutritional needs of our clients.
With one part-time staff and 55 volunteers, we serve more than 4,000 clients a year and distribute about $300,000 worth of food annually.
Much of the food is received from the Ottawa Food Bank but we spend about $50,000 every year to purchase food, primarily perishables like eggs, margarine, fruit and vegetables that are necessary to a balanced diet..
