Science North is a not-for-profit cultural attraction. Since opening in 1984, Science North has gained an international reputation for its style of science communication delivered by real scientists. That has been the hallmark of Science North since the very beginning, and it is the reason our Bluecoat brand of science delivery is known worldwide.
Over the years, we’ve grown from a single attraction to one that includes the F. Jean MacLeod Butterfly Gallery, a special exhibits hall, Northern Ontario’s only IMAX® theatre, and a digital planetarium. Science North is Canada’s second largest science centre and we’ve transformed the former Big Nickel Mine into Canada’s eighth largest science centre – Dynamic Earth.
We also engage the people of Northern Ontario in science through outreach programming, covering 800,000 square kms across Northern Ontario. Over the years, we’ve connected with more than 670,000 people in Northern Ontario and now have a permanent outreach base in Thunder Bay to serve the northwest.
