GET ACTIVE WITH FRIENDS! GIVE TO YOUR MUSEUM!
Set for some end-of-summer fun by the lake? Love Summerland and its unique history?
Come and celebrate the time Summerland Museum was built (history buffs know it was 1984) during the 2018 SMAsh Retro Tennis FUNdraiser, Sept. 21-22 at Lakeshore Racquets Club.
We mush together the music and – yes – wood racquets of the early 80s and the creativity and teamwork of a mixed triples tournament, all in a park setting next to Okanagan Lake.
You need only look like McEnroe or Navratilova. Little or no tennis talent is required.
SMAsh is the first in a series of fall events to raise awareness and funds for Light at the Museum, a campaign to modernize our downtown museum and archives.
Your ticket to SMAsh includes:
- a tax receipt for $25
- access to crafts and tennis lessons for kids (ages 5-12)
- costume accessories and use of wood racquets for teams
- team prizes for karaoke, spirit, trivia and, of course, tennis
Don’t miss this social activity as we create a brighter future for our museum and community.
Special thanks to Lakeshore Racquets Club for hosting this event in their lakeside facility and to BC Rural Dividend Program for supporting the museum’s fundraising efforts.
2018 SMAsh Retro Tennis FUNdraiser starts with the Celebrity-for-History Match, 1 pm on Friday, Sept. 21, and continues through division finals and team awards on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 22 at Lakeshore Racquets Club (LRC).
There are four divisions of mixed triples play: community, corporate, cultural, and family. Each team is guaranteed three matches and each match is scheduled to last no more than one hour.
SMAsh provides activities, crafts, drinks, and snacks for family - and team-building on site.
The tournament schedule, based on the number of teams in each division, will be finalized and posted on the museum website and LRC on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
Tickets are $30 per player or a discounted $80 per team of three if purchased by Friday, Sept. 7. Tickets are available at $40 per player and $110 per team of three until Tuesday, Sept. 18.
When purchasing tickets for SMAsh, additional donations to Light at the Museum are appreciated. You must select a division and experience level and submit a team name.
Players will be asked to show a ticket and sign a waiver when they register on site for SMAsh on Friday, Sept. 21. Players and spectators can donate to Light at the Museum on site at LRC.
