The Hamilton Walk for Down Syndrome – nicknamed THE WALK is our main Community Awareness and Fundraising event aimed to increase the level of awareness, understanding, and acceptance for Down syndrome within our community. We are promoting awareness at a National level by supporting the Canadian Down Syndrome Society's "Go21" Campaign. The word "Go" is used to celebrate the advancement and strength in the Down syndrome community and the number "21" is used to represent the three copies of the 21st chromosome which determines a Down syndrome diagnosis. As in the past, it promises to be a fantastic day, so please check back often for further details and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook,Twitter and Instagram for regular updates.

Why Walk?

The Down Syndrome Association of Hamilton (DSAH) is a not-for-profit organization run exclusively by volunteers whose lives have been touched by Down syndrome.

We provide and share information on general, health-related, educational, and social inclusion aspects to families of loved ones with Down syndrome, as well those seeking further understanding of human diversity.

By organizing THE WALK, we aim to increase the level of awareness, understanding, and acceptance for Down syndrome within our community.

"What Happens To My Money?" This community event brings together people of all abilities and diversities. All the funds raised through the GO21 Hamilton Walk remain with the Down Syndrome Association of Hamilton and are used to support a wide range of programs, including: subsidizing private occupational, physio and speech therapies to optimize one's development and independent functioning; offsetting the costs for educational and informational conferences; creating opportunities to foster life skills such as cooking classes, dance and gym classes; allowing access to technology-based therapy tools to enhance communication; and supporting parents and families of children and adults with Down syndrome by funding social gatherings where they can connect.
