The Friends of the Canmore Library Society is a volunteer organization working to support the Canmore Public Library by fundraising for identified needs beyond the Library's budget. In addition to used book sales in April, August and November each year, the Friends host a monthly speakers series for the general public.
The Friends of Canmore Library organization was established in 1993. It's a CRA registered charity which provides the Library with annual grants in the range of $15,000 to $20,000. In 2015, Friends of Canmore Library Society received two significant awards: the Mayor's Award for Volunteer Excellence and the Schreiber Friends of the Year Award from Friends of Canadian Libraries.
In 2018/19, the Friends also contributed $20,000 as a founding gift to the Canmore Library Endowment Fund held by the Banff Canmore Community Foundation. When the Library moved into its new location at Elevation Place in 2013, the Friends presented the Library with a cheque for $100,000 to help cover the cost of new shelving and furnishings.
