Since 1958 the Vancouver Second Mile Society has been devoted to its core vision of connecting and uniting seniors in the Downtown Eastside. For this reason, we operate several programs out of our senior center at 509 East Hastings Street.

The center itself provides a quiet and calm lounge space for seniors above the age of 45, with a breakfast and lunch served everyday. Any seniors from the neighborhood can come and watch TV, play pool and other games, and relax.

We also operate several outreach programs, which work continually to maintain and improve the social relationships between seniors in the neighborhood. We have an english focused and Chinese focused outreach program here in the Downtown Eastside and Chinatown. We also have an English focused program in the downtown core.

In a neighborhood that is increasingly boxed in and gentrified, places of rest are becoming rare. By offering our senior center and outreach to elders we not only can create places of peace, but places where they can connect with others that face the very same life challenges.
