Emergency shelter and support services for women and families. Housing-First, Harm Reduction, Trauma-informed emergency shelter.
Mission
The Welcome Centre Shelter for Women exists to reduce the devastating impact of homelessness and poverty by providing safe emergency shelter and transitional supports to women and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
About us
With a vision of "safe housing for every woman, every night; no exceptions" the Centre is a vibrant agency working within the Windsor Essex community. We provide 24 hr support within a 17 bed emergency shelter, an emergency food bank program, as well as drop-in programming for women and families who self-identify as at risk for losing stable housing. Additionally, the agency provides weekend recreational programming for children in shelter, because kids deserve play! Harm-reduction based and Housing Focused, the Centre offers both in-house clients and community women access to various harm reduction supplies (in partnership with the Aids Committee of Windsor).
Incorporated in 1990, the Centre has served over 5000 women through the shelter program, and offers 24 hr staffing, emotional supports, basic needs, advocacy and referral assistance to women and families with the outcome focus of getting women and families OUT of shelter and back INTO the community- where they belong. The women do the hard work, and the staff are here to support each woman's individual journey into stable housing.
