About BC Wheelchair Sports Association
Since 1971, BC Wheelchair Sports Association has provided sports and recreation opportunities to people with physical disabilities across British Columbia. We provides programs for athletes from the grassroots to the Paralympic level, and develop world-class coaches, officials, classifiers and other sport professionals. The sports under our umbrella include: wheelchair athletics, wheelchair racing, and wheelchair tennis
- People with disabilities who play wheelchair sports have a greater chance of employment, less pain, more self-esteem, more friends, more independence and less depression than their inactive peers.
- BCWSA has several well-known alumni, including Rick Hansen and Terry Fox.
- People with disabilities who play wheelchair sports have significantly fewer hospital stays and medical interventions than those who don't. Investing in wheelchair sports saves money in healthcare costs!
