About The Church of St. Matthias & St. James the Apostle
We are The Church of St. Matthias & St. James the Apostle, but we often call ourselves St. Matthias & St. James. This is sometimes abbreviated to "SM/SJ" in newsletter articles.
We are located in the city of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, which is about 40 minutes west of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Guelph has a population of about 115,000 and is home to the University of Guelph.
St. Matthias & St. James the Apostle is a medium sized parish with approximately 180 families on the parish list. We are part of the Anglican Church in Canada, within the Diocese of Niagara.
We are an amalgamation of two Anglican churches. We share a commitment to living the good news that demands inclusivity, restoration of peace, actions that bring justice, and a belief that this world is our Eden, awaiting our awakening as the Body of Christ.
We are eucharistic, joyful, intentional about our faith.
We are multi-generational, single and married, multi-ethnic, LGBTQ2 friendly.
We believe that love and friendship are the highest forms of discipleship.
Our Vision is to be a gathering place for the wider community and a hub for preparation for social activism.
