Our team at CanadaHelps is grateful to live, work, and collaborate across the diverse Indigenous homelands of this land we share, Canada. We acknowledge that our headquarters are located on the traditional territory of the Wendat, the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation (known today as Toronto).
We express deep respect for these territories and honour the Indigenous Peoples who have stewarded them since time immemorial. For CanadaHelps, reconciliation is an active, evolving responsibility. We are dedicated to listening, amplifying Indigenous voices, and taking measurable steps to support Indigenous self-determination and community-led solutions. We are working towards implementing calls to action that were outlined in the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
How We Practise Reconciliation
Staff Education & Internal Action
Every year, CanadaHelps engages in staff-wide Truth and Reconciliation programming created by Indigenous educators. Our team actively participates in learning events, explores dedicated staff resource guides, joins national initiatives, and participates in internal donation-matching programs to support Indigenous-led charities.
Indigenous Leadership & Consultation
We recognize that solutions must be led by Indigenous communities. When developing programs, resources, or discussions relating to Indigenous Peoples, we consult with Indigenous partners to ensure their wisdom, leadership, and lived experiences guide our approach.
Operational Spending & Preferred Vendors
We actively direct our purchasing power toward economic reconciliation. CanadaHelps treats Indigenous-owned businesses as preferred vendors for operational spending, including corporate merchandise, office supplies, and professional services.
Innovative Financial Support & Securities Dividend Redirection
Beyond standard platform tools, we find new ways to unlock funding for Indigenous charities. Under our updated Gift of Securities policy, any dividends accrued while a security donation is held in trust by CanadaHelps are redirected directly to the Indigenous Peoples Solidarity Fund or another Indigenous-led charity chosen each fiscal year.
Supporting Indigenous-Led Charities & Causes
Indigenous-led charities face persistent funding disparities, creating barriers to combating systemic inequalities and the legacy of colonization. To bridge this gap, CanadaHelps created dedicated Cause Funds in collaboration with experienced Indigenous advisors. These funds allow donors to support multiple verified Indigenous organizations with a single gift.
