We are a place where people can express their greatest joys and deepest sorrows, and find belonging, shared experiences, and connection.
Grace’s congregation first gathered in 1906, and we built our current church building in 1912. We have been here in Calgary’s Beltline for well over a hundred years. In that time, we’ve become clearer that what matters is people, their stories and their growth and change over a lifetime of experiences.
When we look to Jesus, we see his attention to people and relationships. He welcomes everyone, including those who are vulnerable and rejected or ignored by society, and his ultimate gesture of love is expressed in surrender. In Jesus, God becomes one of us. In a way, God sets aside all we think God should be and takes on our humanity, our joy and our sorrow. God rejects our imagination of power to show us how connection and relationship can empower others, and how by journeying together through the highs and lows we all experience, we find the fullness of life.
That’s our model. We are about people and their stories. We seek to build – or perhaps discover – a community that leans into the fullness of life. We are a place where people can express their greatest joys and deepest sorrows, and in doing so, find belonging, shared experiences, and genuine connection.
We won’t always get it right, but we have opportunities every day to make different choices, to learn and grow, and to tell a new story.
Whatever your story. You are welcome here.
