Whether you are a parishioner or visitor, the clergy and staff of St. Mary’s extend a warm welcome.
St. Mary’s is the oldest and largest Roman Catholic Church in Kitchener - Waterloo, and is under the guidance and administration of the Religious Fathers of the Congregation of the Resurrection.
Built in 1854 and established as a parish in 1857, the original church, on the corner of Weber and Young Streets, soon became too small for it’s burgeoning congregation. In May 1900 ground was broken by the parishioners, for the new (present) church. In late autumn 1903 the church was completed and on December 13 was dedicated under the same title as the first church.
The church is Neo-Gothic in style, in the shape of a Latin Cross. The seating accommodation is for 1,000 persons.
The church interior features the original High Altar, vaulted ceilings with paintings by Signor Ilario Panzironi, stained glass windows and a Casavant pipe organ installed in 1948 as a war memorial.
St. Mary’s is truly a peaceful oasis in the midst of the city’s core. While she has aged gracefully, constant repairs and restoration are required to continue serving the community for generations to come. This is a costly undertaking and we sincerely thank everyone for their on-going support.
