PAROISSE SAINT-JOSEPH

about

St. Joseph’s parish was founded in 1860 under the name « St-Joseph-de-Gloucester » with 90 English and French-speaking families.

Over the years, on the original large territory of the parish, eight French and English parishes were founded, but St. Joseph’s in Orléans remains one of the largest parishes in the Ottawa diocese.

The parish is still very active today with approximately a thousand parishioners celebrating mass on weekends.

In addition to its religious role, the parish contributes to the educational, cultural, social and community life in Orléans.

Joseph’s Church in Orléans is also home to many organizations, such as the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the Knights of Columbus, the Daughters of Isabella, the Club 60 for seniors, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides and several other community groups.

The parish provides pastoral services to thousands of students on its territory.

Joseph’s church, with its Neo-Gothic architecture and tall steeple, is a cornerstone of our regional heritage right in the heart of Orléans.

The 2015-2020 fundraising campaign permitted major renovations to secure the structural integrity of the church, remodel the interior closer to its original beauty and ensure its longevity.

The church will be one hundred years old in 2022.
