HOW WE GOT STARTED
5n2 was founded by Seema David, who immigrated to Canada in 2007.
While commuting to work downtown each day, Seema was shocked by the homelessness she saw on Toronto’s streets. At the same time, she was meeting other new immigrants in Scarborough who were struggling to feed their families.
Determined to help her community, Seema began to serve soup three days a week. Soon, this became 5n2 Kitchens, operating out of a shared space at the Global Kingdom Ministries church kitchen.
As demand grew, 5n2 has expanded into its own space, so that we can continue to fight food insecurity in our neighbourhood. Now, we are serving over 1500 meals at nine locations each week and supplying much-needed grocery hampers to the more isolated in our neighbourhoods. Alongside our kitchen, we run additional programs to help end food insecurity—such as the free food pantry, the community garden, and MEALS4U.
WHO WE SERVE
We strive to minimize poverty, hunger and food insecurity in our communities. We work with partner organizations to bring fresh, warm meals to local residents, serving at food banks, shelters, senior’s buildings, drop-in centres and apartment buildings.
What People Are Saying
"The righteous will answer him, ' Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?' The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it for me.'"
— Matthew 25:37,40
