The Aquatic Biosphere Society of Canada is an education and conservation focused charity, working towards the creation of a public conservation, education and research facility in Western Canada. With a spotlight on water and aquatic ecosystems, the Society supports public education, general education and conservation in the critically important area of earth's aquatic ecosystems.

Founded in 2014, the Society is a volunteer-operated organisation. A dedicated group of passionate individuals has dedicated many hours in building the concept and plans, creating an incredible vision around discovering 'The Story of Water'.

The focus on water as one of critical our life-sustaining resources has become increasingly important in the face of numerous pressures. 

Learning the story of water, from local waters to distant seas, and how they are interconnected is part of the focus. Incorporating these lessons and studies into schools and general public discourse at events is another part of the mission. Eventually, independent research facilities will create opportunities for contributions on a global scale. 

The Society brings a unique opportunity to create a facility of environmental relevance, of extended education, of economic impact, and of personal involvement surrounding a life-critical resource that touches every aspect of life on earth. A facility is a large target that will take some time and support by those who equally passionate about water and the life that lives in, on and around it. In the meantime, unique and award winning programs have been created and continue to be developed.

Here are some highlights:

* The Water We Doing? Podcast has been nominated a number of times and won twice at the Canadian Podcast Awards, including Best Science Series.

* The Explore Water outreach program featuring 'The Minnow' - a mobile, solar powered exhibit that is set up to showcase the aquatic ecosystems of the community it shows up in.

* Quiltafish - a family friendly mascot to help make fish even more fun.

* Youth Mentoring - working with student projects and interns in community projects with a number of post-secondary and skills development organisations.
