about

Through its mission, the organization aims to: ♥ Help people in the neighborhood, break isolation; ♥ Encourage mutual aid, promote individual and collective care; ♥ Educate, raise awareness and mobilize; ♥ Contribute to neighborhood food security; ♥ Act on the fight against poverty.

In the heart of the Centre-Sud district of Montreal since 1973, we provide services and resources to the adult population of the district. Au Coup de Pouce operates in 5 major areas related to its mission, the priorities of which are dictated by the needs of our members and our community:

♥ Elders

The seniors in our community are experiencing specific challenges, they have been particularly isolated and helpless since the start of the pandemic and report to us that they are experiencing distress in the face of the current situation. Many say they want to participate in collective actions that will allow them to meet new people and to be able to exchange, discuss, take their place and share their knowledge and experiences. (Creative expression workshops, Events, Information coffee meeting, Cultural outings)

♥ Food Safety

A significant portion of the population in our neighborhood lives with food insecurity. Au Coup de Pouce Centre-Sud is involved in countering food insecurity and mobilizing citizens who can to take concrete action to make a difference. (Fridge des Faubourgs: we offer free take-out meals to anyone who needs them every week; Soupes solidaires collective kitchen: workshop open to those who wish to cook for food distribution)

♥Arts and culture

Our approach focused on creativity, arts and culture encourages autonomous and group creative expression. Everyone is welcome and is recognized as an artist in their own right. Everyone is thus encouraged to experiment and exchange knowledge and skills, to discover themselves and to flourish in the world. Our workshops, projects and visits aim to promote social inclusion, sharing and empowerment through regenerative artistic and creative experiences. (Creative workshops, cultural outings and events)

♥ The digital divide

The pandemic has been a revealing factor in the place of technologies in our lives and in our ability to stay connected with our society and our personal network. The gap between those who have access to and knowledge of these technologies and those who do not, accentuates social exclusion and precariousness. This fracture is superimposed on other social inequalities and it is important to act globally to aim for social transformation. (Personalized training)

♥ Social inclusion

We believe that it is essential to allow everyone to develop their self-knowledge, their social and personal skills as well as their autonomy in order to actualize their full potential. Through a popular education approach, we mobilize, we share knowledge and life experiences and we help each other. In this way, each person fulfills their social participation project and takes action to build a more inclusive future for all. (Job board available in the windows of our premises; personalized support and referencing)

♥ ♥ Every dollar makes a big difference, for example, it allows us to cook a portion of soup for someone who needs it. We distribute, for free, an average of 280 portions of food per week!

♥ ♥ $75 allows us to organize a creative expression workshop for a dozen people. We offer an average of 8 to 10 creative workshops per month.

♥ ♥ $300 allows us to organize a cultural outing. A big thank you!♥ ♥ ♥
