Ballet Edmonton

Ballet Edmonton is a contemporary ballet ensemble of company dancers under the leadership of Artistic Director Wen Wei Wang.

A passion for storytelling through dance drives Ballet Edmonton’s vision to create new work. We offer our audiences original, inspired contemporary dance that reflects our Artistic Director's adventurous, curatorial vision and resonates with our community. At the heart of Ballet Edmonton is a desire to develop artists. Our studio practice welcomes dance artists to participate in building new work to help construct movement vocabulary and further their artistic development.  Our creative process exposes opportunities to explore ideas and conversations through contemporary ballet and dance to allow for new ways of seeing ourselves and each other.

We commission original work each season from a variety of choreographic voices for our main stage performance series and touring. Our repertoire features new creations by nationally and internationally recognized and emerging choreographers with distinctive voices. Ballet Edmonton is committed to advancing the work of female and diverse creators to ensure our artistic product reflects the world in which we live. We contribute to the evolution of ballet in Canada through the presentation of innovative new work.

Ballet Edmonton has commissioned new creations by Canadian and international choreographers, including Gioconda Barbuto, Karissa Barry,  Serge Bennathan, Josh Beamish, Shay Kuebler, Rachel Meyer, Andrea Peña, Diego Ramalho, Ihsan Rstem and Dorotea Saykaly.

Our outreach program, Art Connects, focuses on education and expressive arts practices with marginalized or socially vulnerable community members, including people with disabilities, those living in poverty, new Canadians, and children and youth who face barriers to arts enrichment.
