Media is facing growing pressure. Funding cuts, political challenges, disinformation and rapidly changing technology are reshaping how we create, share and trust information.
But there's another story worth telling: the power of small, independent media to help shape what comes next.
For 51 years, CKCU FM has brought people together through music, news, arts, culture and conversation. Founded in 1975 as Canada's first campus-based FM station, we're an independent, non-profit broadcaster built by the people and communities we serve.
As AI changes the media landscape and local news outlets disappear, we believe human connection, independent voices, and community participation matter more than ever.
But there's good reason to be hopeful.
Every day, more than 300 CKCU volunteers share music, stories, ideas and perspectives that might otherwise go unheard. Our small staff team provides training, mentorship and support, helping people develop skills, find their voices and connect with others.

Our 2026 Keep Media Human campaign runs from October 23 to November 8 and aims to raise $215,000.
