Chabad on Campus Quebec City

about

The Jewish Community in Quebec City has seen its population rise and fall since 1700s. The community in New France found new life with the arrival of a young, energic couple, Rabbi Dovid Lewin, and his wife, Devorah-Leah. In 2006, the Lewins established a Chabad presence in this charming city full of contrasts. Born and raised in France, Rabbi Dovid had worked with the youth of the French Riviera before coming to reanimate one of North America's oldest Jewish community.

The Chabad movement began more than a century ago in the town of Lubavitch in White Russia. Most appropriately, the word Lubavitch means "city of brotherly love" in Russian. The Chabad philosophy of love and concern for fellow Jews and the world at large has been carried forward in our own generation by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson (1902-1994), known simply as "the Rebbe". The Rebbe helped the community move on from the tragic losses of the Holocaust to work towards a better future.

Inspired by the Rebbe's message, guided by Torah ideals, and using their warm, caring hearts and dynamic personalities, Rabbi Dovid and Devorah-Leah have created a full network of services, activities, and programs in Quebec City which have enriched the lives of thousands.

Connecting to community, connecting to others, and connecting to Torah - this is the mission of Chabad. To facilitate Chabad of Quebec City in its mission, a building has been purchased in the center of the city, 545 Grande Allée Est, not far from the Parlement and Old City. The three floor building will be a center for Chabad's many initiatives and programs.

  • Courses in Jewish philosophy, practices, and traditions are offered for all levels of knowledge and observance.

  • Our Hebrew school promotes a positive, exciting Jewish education about Jewish beliefs, traditions, and texts.

  • Traditional services serve as the cornerstone of a Jewish community and are offered.

  • Sharing laughter, friendship, and emotions, the QC ladies gather together for creative activities and games while also exploring themes of Jewish life.

  • Young mothers participate in the Mommy and Me" program which features games, songs, and discoveries for children and their mothers.

  • Our kosher meal service is a delight for both tourists and business meals. Why settle for a sandwich when a fresh meal is available?

  • Everyone is welcomed by Chabad to learn more about the Seven Noahide Laws and how they can be praticed in modern times.

Thanks to Chabad, the tapestry of Jewish life in Quebec City is becoming more colorful - embroidered with joy, camaraderie, and hope
