Eldercare Foundation enhances care and quality of life for seniors in the living at home or in long-term care on Vancouver Island
Eldercare Foundation of Vancouver Island is a registered charity that believes every senior deserves the chance to age with dignity.
The purpose of our work is to enhance care and quality of life for older adults and those who care for them. Eldercare does this by raising funds to:
- Help seniors age safely in place at home. Eldercare purchases equipment and therapy support for adult day programs, community bathing programs, and respite care, while also funding community initiatives including SAFE Footcare and SAFE Lifeline which provide free in-home footcare and medical alarms to low-income seniors living with a high risk of falls or hospitalization.
- Enhance and expand public long-term care. Eldercare purchases equipment, therapy support, dementia care technology, and funds entertainment to restore joy and a sense of purchase to seniors in long-term care. Our Resident-in-Need Fund also provides personal health needs like clothes, hearing aid batteries, reading aids, etc., to low-income seniors who can’t afford them.
- Advance research and education aimed at improving the care available to seniors everywhere. Eldercare provides several research awards and educational bursaries, and offers free public education through the Yakimovich Wellness Centre.
At present, Eldercare programs touch the lives of more than 2,000 seniors each and every month.
