Giishkaandago'Ikwe Health Services

about

We are a leader in innovative health care guided by the Grandmother and Grandfather teachings of the Anishinaabeg inspiring knowledge, strength and emplowerment for the purpose of lifelong Mino ayawin (good health).

At Giishkaandago’Ikwe Health Services we continually strive to help improve the quality of life for every person and to promote the well-being of those we serve. We are committed to working with our Anishinaabe communities, our partnering healthcare providers and most importantly, our clients and their families to improve the health and wellness of everyone living and working in Southern Treaty Three. With this in mind, we continue to expand our services with the emphasis on supporting Mino Bimaadiziwin and achieving our vision of Mino Ayawin (Good Health).

Giishkaandago’Ikwe Health Services was established by the ten Anishinaabe communities in Southern Treaty Three for the purposes of reestablishing Anishinaabeg authority and jurisdiction over our health care services. The Chiefs developed a comprehensive health strategy that transferred the responsibility for planning, development, delivery and administration of health services from the Federal and Provincial government to the organization. On July 27, 2007, Three organizations(Fort Frances Tribal Area Health Authority, Oshkibematezewin Inc., and Anishinaabeg Community Counselling Services) amalgamated to form what is now known as Giishkaandago’Ikwe Health Services. The heart beat of our organization is our drum, Aazhawii Giizhik. Aazhawii Giizhik was sounded for the first time in the spring of 2014 during spring ceremony. Aazhawii Giizhik means a spark in the sky, it combines the atmosphere, the water and the earth. The spark that travels from West to East (like a flash of lightning). The colours of Aazhawii Giizhik are white, red, green and yellow. The organization was also gifted three sacred pipes and an Eagle staff to guide and carry the organization. We are a multi-faceted and unique organization with a diversity of programs that has been Accredited with Exemplary Standing with Accreditation Canada (2022). We are a leader in innovative wholistic services integrating clinical best practices with traditional methods. The Anishinaabeg Grandmother and Grandfather teachings are at the heart of what we do from; conduct, ethics, services and values.

Your donation will help us to support our clients and families in their journey of Mino Ayawin. Below is a video that provide more information about our organization.
